WELCOME TO WEEK 5

This week's topic was: RELATING TO THE MASSES

This week we focused primarily on how to control effective messaging to broaden the appeal of said messaging in a way that makes it relatable, not just consistent.

You may need/want to agree with your opponent on a widely accepted issue, but there can always be a caveat that evokes a persuasive message.

Essentially, this form of messaging is essential in understanding how to effectively debate, because it explains how you need to shape your argument to not only be understanding, but promote the idea of "talking to" rather than "talking down".

The later half of the seminar was simply rehashing last week's content, which - in case you aren't familiar with it - can be found here.

Michele's Note: This may be an abridged version, I was not here for the first hour.

Readings

The Luntz Memo - Looked at previously in Week 3, Frank Luntz remains an essential person to read about when regarding the changing of narratives to fit the broader appeal.

Peter Botting's "Lessons Behind a Speech That Worked - Up to a Point" - Petter Botting is also one strategist for the UK political sphere, he essentially promoted the concept of "storytelling", in case the first half of the article didn't give you that idea.
